SCAD Research Inc. AustraliaNot for Profit Health Charity
From initial logo development to social media management, generating PR and co-ordinating the SCADaddle fundraisers for medical research, BlueFish proudly provides pro-bono Marketing support for SCAD Research Inc.
As a SCAD Heart Attack Survivor herself, Sarah founded SCAD Research Inc. Australia in 2016 in conjunction with family, friends and other SCAD survivors. Since it’s inception, BlueFish Marketing has been providing pro-bono support from initial logo development to website creation, social media management, event planning and advertising development.
In 2016 SCAD Research Inc Australia was established as a health promotion charity to raise research funds and drive awareness of SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection) in Australia.
SCAD is an uncommon emergency heart condition that occurs when a tear forms in one of the blood vessels in the heart, SCAD can slow or block blood flow to the heart, causing a heart attack, abnormalities in heart rhythm and/or sudden death. Most SCAD sufferers have no risk factors of heart disease (such as obesity, cholesterol or family history of heart disease), the average age of sufferers is just 42 and 80% are women.
Raising Much Needed Funds for Research
In 2016 the BlueFish team organised the first annual Australian SCADaddles – 5km walks to raise awareness and Research funds for SCAD Heart Attacks. With no budget and only grassroots Survivor support, we have now successfully planned and implemented SCADaddles for research in Sydney, Brisbane, Noosa, Perth, Melbourne, Launceston and Hobart with local media support and associated publicity.
In 2018 we had over 350 walkers across 5 events including 43 Aussie SCAD Survivors, as well as representatives from the Heart Foundation women’s team and the Victor Chang Cardiac Institute SCAD team in Sydney plus branded merchandise (hats and t-shirts) generously donated and subsidised by WLT. We continue to build grassroots support with local survivors organising a Trivia Night Fundraiser in Brisbane and additional funds generated through workplace giving initiatives and Shopnate online shopping donations.
As at the end of 2018 SCAD Research Inc. the total amount donated to SCAD Medical Research will be just over $50,000 AUD.
Generating Awareness of SCAD Heart Attacks
In 2016 and 2017 BlueFish Marketing established a website www.scadresearch.com.au, social media strategy for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram , creating signature posts & sharing survivor’s stories to bring this uncommon condition to life.
In 2018 SCAD Research Inc. received a Heart Foundation’s Women & Heart Disease Community Grant to create a video to run as part of their ‘Women’s Hearts’ campaign. Developed by BlueFish Marketing and Hipnotic Content from initial brief to finished film, this campaign reached more than 130k people across Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram with more than 88k video views. The average cost per reach was just 2.3c which is an outstanding result and exceeded all expectations and targets.
In addition to creating the video, BlueFish Marketing worked with the Heart Foundation to bring SCAD Survivor stories to life with a live cross to the Sydney SCADaddle for Research on popular TV show Weekend Today, and an additional interview with survivor Jen running on A Current Affair. Combined with extensive local newspaper coverage generated by local survivor Lynne for the Launceston SCADaddle for Research, the social media video and TV segments raised awareness of SCAD Heart Attacks and generated new participants for SCAD Medical Studies.
